Polytechnics play a major and important role in the training of manpower for the ICM industry. Over the past one year, SiTF Productivity and Productisation Program Office (PPPO) team has went out to various Polytechnics in Singapore to talk about the needs and benefits of using Agile methodology to help software developers build their products faster and better.

This initiative was enhanced with the PPPO team working with Temasek Polytechnic (TP) on the development of an integrated train-the-trainers 5-days training program on Lean, Agile and Design Thinking. The structure of the  program was strategised with PPPO’s training partners Rally Software and MiniTheory. Rally Software has a team of Agile coaches to offer comprehensive training services to help teams and leaders navigate the organisational change required to become a great, innovative, Agile business. Minitheory is a digital design studio set-up to deliver quality user experience, interaction and visual design for web, mobile devices and software applications using Design Thinking as a foundation.  The contents of the program were fine-tuned through several meetings between PPPO, TP, Rally and MiniTheory.

The 5-days training started on 13th April 2015, with Manoj Vadakkan, a Certified Scrum Trainer who flew in from Denver Colorado, USA, conducted the training at SiTF house. It was well attended by 20 TP staff, who quickly picked up the Agile and Scrum vocabulary, as Manoj talked about self-organising team with rules and limitations, iterations, sprint. time box, backlog, product owner and scrum master, etc.

Michael Chen, CEO and design thinking practitioner from MiniTheory conducted the design thinking module.  John Okoro wrapped up the intergrated program  through Kanban training and taking the class through IDA’s Agile Maturity Model.
