IoT: Towards the Next Frontier

SiTF Digital Media Wireless Chapter (DMWC) in partnership with Starhub, held the Internet of Things (IoT) – the Next Frontier at Entrepreneur Resource Centre (ERC), BIG Work on 22 July 2016. The participants, consisting of retailers from the furniture and manufacturing related industries as well as technology entrepreneurs were excited to explore the realm of IoT and its impact on businesses.
The programme started with a welcome note from DMW Chapter Chairman Mr Anol Bhattacharya.
Guest speaker Mr Paul Bradley, Chairman and CEO of CAPRICA International presented on Transforming Global Business Leadership with IoT, and the technological disruption impacting the retail industry.
Referring to IoT and IoE (Internet of Everything) Mr Bradley said, “Retailers would need to understand the trends and how to use technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality to go into Virtual Retail”. Summing up the supply chain evolution and giving examples of technologies such as Uber, Airbnb that do not own any assets, Mr Bradley added, “A new era of retail and technological transformation would require innovative leadership to leverage the full potential of dynamic value networks and the Internet of Things as global business continues to evolve”.

The participants were enthusiastic, keen listeners and found the session to be informative. Ms. Sok Chen from Wing Tai Retail shared that the event addressed some of the issues faced by retailers and was 'happy to learn more about the topic and what the data retrieved would entail into businesses for future usage'.
